The AEPC Working Group on Cardiovascular Morphology is devoted to teaching and research in cardiovascular morphology and its related fields of embryology, development, anatomy and pathology of the heart and the vascular system.
Understanding the complex anatomy of the normal heart and even more so knowledge on morphology of malformed hearts is crucial for correctly interpreting clinical imaging data and serves as basis for a rational planning of therapeutic interventions. Thus, every pediatric cardiologist in Europe should have a basic training on cardiovascular morphology during his/her training. Ongoing research is required to further improve knowledge on all aspects of cardiovascular morphology. The WG promotes and coordinates research activities and actively takes part in producing guidelines.
Every member of AEPC may become member of the WG on Cardiovascular Morphology. The WG has a nucleus, which is elected at the Business Meeting during the AEPC Annual Meeting. The WG organizes lectures and teaching courses on cardiovascular morphology and its related fields at the AEPC Annual Meeting and in meetings related to pediatric cardiology throughout Europe.
